COMMUNITY PRINCIPLES, SITE TERMS, AND PRIVACY STATEMENT

Thank you for being part of the American Board of Internal Medicine (“ABIM”) community.

ABIM has launched this ABIM Engage community website (the “Site”) to foster constructive, innovative dialogue among Internal Medicine physicians and community members. We look forward to facilitating opportunities for you to engage with your peers. To ensure the best possible experience for all Site members and users, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read, understand, and will follow these Community Principles, Site Terms, and Privacy Statement (together, “Site Guidelines and Terms”).  Throughout these Site Guidelines and Terms, the terms “ABIM” or “us” or “we” or “our” refer to the American Board of Internal Medicine, the owner of the Site. The terms “you” or “your” refers to you, as the user or viewer of the Site.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important Site Guidelines and Terms. In order to preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violates them.

Please Note:  These Site Guidelines and Terms apply only to this Site. Other ABIM websites (such as www.abim.org) may have their own applicable website terms and policies.

Questions about the Site or these Site Guidelines and Terms should be directed to our Community Engagement team via the Contact Us link on this Site.

ABIM reserves the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to modify these Site Guidelines and Terms. It is your responsibility to check these Site Guidelines and Terms periodically for revisions. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes will signify your agreement to such changes.

COMMUNITY PRINCIPLES

  • Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
  • Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. Please do not share information that appears to be an advertisement. If you’ve found a resource helpful, please share your experience with the group in a respectful way.
  • Use caution in posting. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws. Please consider your comments and contributions public, and be cognizant of HIPAA and other privacy policies relevant to medical professionals. Do not share protected health information (PHI) on the Site.
  • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal content is strictly prohibited and may be removed by ABIM in its sole discretion.
  • Respect intellectual property. Post only content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.
  • When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.
  • Post your message or content only to the most appropriate communities. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."
  • Present as yourself on the site at all times; never impersonate or claim to represent another individual or group.

Discussion Guidelines

  • State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
  • Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.
  • Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply change your settings.

THE LEGAL STUFF – SITE TERMS

This Site is provided by the American Board of Internal Medicine (“ABIM”) as a service for ABIM diplomates and community members.

User Content

Do not post any defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials.  Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, the posting party warrants and represents that he or she owns the copyright with respect to such material or has received permission from the copyright owner. In addition, the posting party grants ABIM and users of this Site the nonexclusive right and license to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other material.

Messages should not be posted if they encourage or facilitate members to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins, or cost data; market shares, sales territories, or markets; allocation of customers or territories; or selection, rejection, or termination of customers or suppliers.

ABIM does not always monitor the Site for inappropriate postings and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting is brought to ABIM’s attention, we will investigate and take all appropriate action, in our sole discretion. ABIM is not responsible for the opinions and information posted on this Site by its users.  Likewise, the Site may contain links to external, third party sites along with relevant commentary or summaries, in some cases posted by Site users.  ABIM does not operate or control and has no responsibility for the information, products, and/or services found on any external, non-ABIM sites.

ABIM will attempt to conduct moderation activities in a timely fashion; however, we are not responsible for delays in editing/removing posts, or for failure to do so. Moderators may also take actions they deem necessary to limit user access to the discussions and the community for violating the community guidelines. For instance, a moderator or manager can, at his/her sole discretion, ban a user from the discussions either temporarily or permanently and may do so without warning.

ABIM reserves the right to terminate access to the Site for any user who does not abide by these Site Guidelines and Terms.
